Annual Dinner Dance 2017
Date: Saturday 23rd September
Venue: Melchet Court
Cost: £25 per person
The annual dinner has been arranged closer than ever to the end of the season so that events are fresh in our minds and it becomes a genuine conclusion to
our sporting endeavours. Taking feedback on board, a carvery is back on the menu this year, along with the usual bar arrangements and live music. Partners,
friends and any/all associated people are welcome, so round them all up and let Chris, Sharpy or MC know your ticket requirements!
Jolly Boys Day Out #5
It's that time of year again folks! The annual club day at the Ageas for a bit of Hampshire cricket takes in the historic first day of the
pink ball, day/night championship fixture against Somerset on Monday 26th June.
Bearing in mind the different playing regulations, the day's entertainment doesn't start until 14:00 with play going on until around 21:30.
The usual minibus will be provided to pick up from Whiteparish/Sherfield/Romsey and drops back again in the evening. The exact cost will
depend on how many people we have signing up, so the more of you come, the cheaper it will be!
Please let Glyn know as soon as possible whether you're planning on attending; he'll be asking around as well, but it's far easier
if you go to him!
Jolly Boys Day Out #3
Following on from the success of the club's trips to the Ageas Bowl over the last couple of years, this season's
installment is now planned for Monday 7 July for day 1 of the championship match against Gloucestershire
(replacing the previous date of Monday 16 June).
The now familiar pattern is to book a minibus to pick us up from Whiteparish/Sherfield/Romsey and drop us back again at close of
play to save the need to have multiple drivers. The exact cost will depend on how many people we have signing up, so the more of
you come, the cheaper it will be!
Please let Glyn know as soon as possible whether you're planning on attending; he'll be asking around as well, but it's far easier
if you go to him!
Jolly Boys Day Out
Time to resurrect an old tradition and get a club trip organised to see some county cricket.
Still at the planning stage at the moment, but the current thought is to go to day 1 of the championship game between Hampshire
and Kent at the Ageas Bowl on Friday 27th July.
The intention is to book a minibus to pick us up from Whiteparish and drop us back again at close of play to save the need to have
multiple drivers, and once I know numbers I can get tickets pre-booked which works out cheaper than racking up and paying on the
day. Tickets will therefore be £15 for adults and £10 for students; minibus costs to be advised once I know how many people are going
and therefore what size vehicle we'll need.
So, I need to know how many people are interested, and get a firm commitment on numbers so that logistics can be finalised. I'll be
asking you to opt in or out over the next couple of weekends, so have a check in your diaries and let me know if you'll be attending.
AGM 2012
Roll up, roll up, AGM time again! A review of last season, a look at the club's finances with Chancellor Goose,
reports from our Chairman, Secretary and Captains, and a discussion of issues relating to the coming season. What
more could you possibly want from a Monday night?
So, get yourself along to the Kings Head on Monday 12th March for 8 o'clock to be part of the action. Take a
look at the agenda here and review the minutes of last year's meeting here.
Annual Awards
With all the fanfare and razzamatazz of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show, but without Sue
Barker to host, the club's annual dinner and presentation night took place at Hamptworth Golf Club on the
last Sunday in November. A good turn out gave due attention and applause as the season was summarised by
the respective captains and committee members, with the trophies for 2011 going to the following
worthy recipients:
1st XI Player of the Year: Paddy LeCount
1st XI Batting Cup: Jim Dovey
1st XI Bowling Cup: Jim Dovey
2nd XI Player of the Year: Barney Orr
2nd XI Batting Cup: Mike Coulshed
2nd XI Bowling Cup: Barney Orr
Young Player of the Year: Barney Orr
Most Improved Player: Jack Orr
Midweek Player of the Year: Tim Drew
Clubman of the Year: Richie Hamblin
Gerry Yeatman Endeavour Trophy: Marcus Buchanan
In addition, Jim Dovey won the divisional bowling cup for Regional 1 South and Tim Drew won the award for
best bowling figures in the 2nd division of the Border League, so a big congrats to them for their extra
achievements. The Doug Dugard Shield was retained by Sharpy on behalf of his Sherfield cohorts after their
annual victory over a game but outclassed Whiteparish outfit.
Thanks to Hamptworth for hosting, and to the committee in general but Sharpy and MC in particular, for organising
another top night out.
AGM time again
It's time to see the club's democratic process in action again with the AGM scheduled for
Monday 14th March at the Kings. Be there to find out the latest on the Memorial Ground situation,
elect this year's club officers and just maybe have a beer or two and a social chit chat. 7.30pm for an 8 o'clock
start.
Dates For Your Diaries
A couple of essential dates for your diaries in the coming months.
Vice-Presidents' Day, Sunday August 22nd
All the fun you've come to know and love, with the annual dust up between Whiteparish and Sherfield for the Doug
Dugard Shield, BBQ, raffle and whatever other fun we can squeeze into the day.
Annual Dinner, Saturday November 27th
The end of season bun fight, with reflections on the 2010 season, prize giving and a general excuse to get together
once the nights have drawn in and the hazy days of summer are but a blurred memory. We're booked into the usual
venue of the Hamptworth golf club, so you all know your way there by now!
Annual General Meeting
It's admin time again, and the club's AGM, the annual opportunity for you to have a say in the direction and running of the club, as well as voting in the
committee members for the next 12 months, takes place on Monday 29 March at the Kings Head. Proceedings scheduled to start at 8pm,
or whenever enough people have arrived. Any apologies for absence to be sent to our glamorous secretary Sharpy.
Pots Mean Prizes!
The 2009 annual dinner, another entertaining evening held at Hamptworth Golf Club, saw the awarding of the usual array
of trophies for the plethora of worthy winners. The roll of honour for 2009, which saw promotion for the 1sts and consolidation
for the 2nds, reads as follows:
1st XI Player of the Year: Jimmy Hamblin
1st XI Batting Cup: Jimmy Hamblin
1st XI Bowling Cup: Jim Dovey
2nd XI Player of the Year: Paddy LeCount
2nd XI Batting Cup: Rich DaCosta
2nd XI Bowling Cup: Steve Jewell
Young Player of the Year: Paddy LeCount
Most Improved Player: Steve Jewell
Border League Player of the Year: Charlie Evans
Clubman of the Year: Nick Evans
Gerry Yeatman Trophy: Tim Drew
To bolster their already bulging trophy cabinets, Jim Dovey and Jazza also won their respective divisional bowling and batting
cups for their aggregate tallies of wickets and runs, so an extra "well done" to them on fine seasons. As if Sharpy needed reminding,
there was also the official presentation of the Doug Dugard Shield to Lord Harris, who almost single-handedly retained the trophy for Whiteparish
with a demoralising display of strokemaking against Sherfield. Congratulations to all the deserving award winners.

committee members for the next 12 months, takes place on Monday 16 March in the function room of the Kings. Proceedings scheduled to start at 8pm,
or whenever enough people have arrived. Any apologies for absence to be sent to our glamorous secretary Sharpy.
Heroes of 2008
The annual dinner, the usual retrospective of the season just finished, took place at the end of November with the stand out performers from the
year being rewarded for their efforts. The roll of honour for 2008, a good year for the 2nd XI and not quite so good for the 1sts, reads as follows:
1st XI Player of the Year: Glyn Turk
1st XI Batting Cup: Malcolm Noble
1st XI Bowling Cup: Charlie Evans
2nd XI Player of the Year: Josh Green
2nd XI Batting Cup: Mike Coulshed
2nd XI Bowling Cup: Sven Hocking
Young Player of the Year: Josh Green
Most Improved Player: Chris Crew
Border League Player of the Year: Sean Coulshed
Clubman of the Year: Richie Hamblin
Gerry Yeatman Trophy: Geoff Dear
In addition, Matt Metcalfe claimed the Border League divisional batting award for hammering attacks to all parts on Tuesday evenings, and the invaders from up
the road were repelled as Whiteparish claimed an unlikely win to capture the Doug Dugard Shield from Sherfield. Congratulations to all the deserving award winners.
